         BMI
              Frequently Asked Questions
BMI stands for Body Mass Index. It is intended to be a reliable method to indicate total body fat. The BMI score is valid for men and women but there are limitations. In particular, for athletes and others who have a muscular build, the BMI score may incorrectly indicate a higher level of fat than is actually the case given that muscle weighs more than fat. Likewise, the BMI score may underestimate body fat in older persons who have lost muscle mass.
