Understanding  Foods

  • Avoiding fatty foods is an important way to stay Healthy, lower cholesterol, and keep weight under control.

  • Vegetable oils and fried foods are fatty, too. Be cautious about foods prepared with added oils such as salad dressings, fried fooyrup or one of the other simple carbohydrates listed.

  • Grains, beans, vegetables and fruit are very low in fat.  Most derive fewer than 10 percent of their calories from fat.  So keeping fat low is easy when you build a healthy menu from these foods.

Understanding Whole Foods

The health advantages of a diet based on fruit, vegetables, whole grains and legumes in a natural state are:

  1. Whole goods are rich in phytochemicals-powerful nutrients found in plant foods.

  2. Compared with processed foods, whole foods contain more vitamins and minerals.

  3. More fiber and beneficial fats are found in whole foods.

  4. The combinations of nutrients in whole plants foods act synergistically to protect us from disease.
